Overview

Live music, theatre, aerial performance, contemporary dance, kapa haka, mau rākau and hip hop united in Tiki Taane Mahuta, one of New Zealand’s largest nationally-devised productions ever. Created by Taki Rua Artistic Director Tānemahuta Gray and set to live music from iconic musicians Tiki Taane and Shapeshifter’s Sam Trevethick, Tiki Taane Mahuta was a proud expression of Aotearoa identity. The staging featured a series of stunning cinematic sequences from award winning film director David Strong. 

 Labelled, ‘immensely powerful’, the two-hour production told a multi-generational story of enduring love, devastating loss, re-birth and new beginnings. The performance toured throughout New Zealand & received the Excellence Award for Full Production Design at the 2017 Wellington Theatre Awards.
